Attention, Warming Up and Healing
Not only have temperatures and oil prices been warming up but so have my hands. Extra care has been needed toward my hands due to an early morning accident, earlier this week. At about 6 a.m. on Monday, Suvy was in my bedroom, expressing a desire to be let outside the house. Although it was too early for me to begin my day, I was able to walk over to the window and open it so that Suvy could listen to the birds singing outside. In my semi-concious state, I slammed my fingertips between the rising window frame and one of the little window frames that encases the smaller window panes within the window. My first, second and third fingers of each hand were in so much pain that I was afraid that I had broken them. What an instant tragedy for a guitarist to have experienced ! Fortunately the fingertips are not broken, only bruised. My guitar practices have had to begin at 56 beats per minute, working up to 70 or 80 bpm, depending on how much pain I expereince.
That early morning lack of attention has been costly to me. I have been unable to practice for more that thirty minutes at a time; sometimes even less. It would be impossible for me to play a gig today. On top of that, my tendonitis occasionally strikes, causing early morning muscle stiffness in my left hand. Let this diary entry serve as a reminder of how important attention is at all times. Depak Chopra believes that attention is actually a person’s life force and that directing that attention is actually directing one’s life force. Directing that attention to an injury or illness is the secret to healing it, to paraphrase Dr. Chopra.
In the spirit of healing,
