The Church Of The Poisoned Mind
Recently I walked into a Wendy’s restaurant to grab a quick lunch. The person at the front of the line was a man in his thirties, whose demeanor was so instantly overbearing that I felt compelled to look away from him as a gut reaction. I looked at the menu on the wall, behind the counter even though I couldn’t read it without my glasses and had already picked out what I wanted to order. As luck would have it, the man asked me if he could have the sports section of the newspaper that I brought with me. I answered yes and he then told me that he was only joking. He sat down at a table with the three people who were in line behind him. After I sat down at another table, he loudly announced that if presidential candidate ____ was elected that it would be bad for the South. The whole restaurant heard him. One of his friends commented that the children in their neighborhood needed to be attending their church. The man who had just made the political comment then self righteously instructed his friends to bring the children to him and that he would talk them into attending his church. He then said that any of us are capable of preventing these children from talking their way out of attending. The demeanor of this man deserves further description. It was as if he were both manic and depressive at the same time. His pronouncements about what should and should not be done were delivered with an attitude of hatred, masked with righteousness. Could this man be a local minister, having lunch with his church staff ?
NARCISSISM ! This is what I was observing here ! This man wants the attention of everybody that he encounters in life. That is why he interrupted me to ask for the sports section and loudly spat out his political opinions. This is why he wants to religiously harrass the children in his neighborhood until they agree to come to his church. He wants everyone to worship him, while at the same time saying that he works for God.
It is my belief that encouraging people to worship someone other than God constitutes what the Bible describes as evil. Isn’t this what the devil is supposed to be doing ? From all appearances, this man is putting on a loving front in order to wring every drop of ugliness out of his chemically imbalanced mind.
