Another Broken Record

Filed under: Uncategorized — maxh @ 6:39 pm and

I hate to sound like a broken record, but it has been another regular week around here. Perhaps I should go into a little more detail. My morning sittings have been mostly successful, despite the occassional interuptions. These sittings can be a rebirth; a rebirth that can continue forever, given enough Committment and Will. I even hinted at this during the Alpha meeting at church last Thursday evening. (Alpha is an introduction to Christianity for atheists) And speaking of the Alpha meeting… On Thursday afternoon I set up the audio and video for the meeting so that I could show up later when the meeting actually began and simply turn on the p.a., computer and video projector and show the video. As luck would have it, when I arrived at 5:30, the computer would not work. It had gotten into safe mode and I didn’t know how to get it out of safe mode. At the last minute, an attendee figured out the problem and got the computer up and running. My stomach had turned into a knot from the stress and I was stricken with indegestion for the rest of the evening. Perhaps I should simply use my own laptop computer from now on.
I do have a little more Sex Pistols trivia to report. It turns out that Glen Matlock played bass on most of their recordings. During the sessions for the Warner Bros. album, Sid Vicious was sick with hepatitis and could only play on the first two songs on the album, ” Holiday in the Sun” and ” Bodies.” Sid’s bass line was mixed down low, with the guitarist, Steve Jones, recording the loud bass parts on those two songs. Did you know that John Lydon and Chrissie Hynde worked at a janitorial service together before their bands became successful ? Lydon’s autobiography is a fascinating read for me. I suspect that he makes claims that are not completely true in an attempt to provide irony. He talks about their first gig in Atlanta and how he likes the openess of southerners, whether they love the band or hate the band. He mentions a grandmother in Atlanta who brought the band cake and cookies and who still does whenever he plays in Atlanta. He mentions that Malcolm McClaren had a plan to invite Charles Manson to produce the next Sex Pistols album from prison. The closest the McClaren came to this was getting British bank robber Ronald Biggs to sing on one song down in Brazil, after the U.S. tour. There is even video of Biggs in the movie, ” The Great Rock and Roll Swindle.” Lydon was invited to be in the movie, but declined. The Pistols also cancelled a tour of Sweeden, which was supposed to occur after the U.S. tour.
More later,
I.C.
