Communion Amid Chaos
The last ten days or so have been characterized by a malestrom of various activites. The dress rehearsal for the Christmas cantata at the church was cancelled due to the church catching on fire. The quick response by the two church employees on property confined the fire and smoke to the upper floor of the sunday school building. This upper floor should be repaired within three months time. As luck would have it, I was out of town for the rescheduled dress rehearsal, and it was done without the aid of a soundman.
I was out of town to be examined by the opthomalogist and the oncologist. After two days of eyelid flipping and blood analyzing, they were happy to report that there were no indications of impending doom in my near future.
The cantata was performed with only minor imperfections despite the potential for failure. The rehearsals had been incomplete and the electrical system of the church had been partially shut down. We were troopers.
My responsibilities of eldercare, animal husbandry and Christmas shopping were carried out with occasional practices of relaxation, attention and intention, which helped to generate energy and sacred space in my area. It is too bad that my environment here is basically a theocratical police state, which does not support such practices, despite the illusory conceits of some of the religious people here. But, my life’s work is here and I plan to soldier on in my effort to accomplish my goals.
Happy Holidays,
I.C.
