Graduation Emancipation

My memorial day weekend began on Friday with a funeral at the church. It was my responsibility to run sound. Up until time for me to get behind the soundboard in the balcony, there was no confirmation as to whether there would be one soloist singing, or two, or three. Having yielded to pressure and excitement at the childrens’ musical on Wednesday, I knew that this was an opportunity to redeem myself. I calmly and deliberately moved two handheld mics and receivers from the fellowship hall to the sanctuary, so as to be prepared for any combination of soloists during the funeral. One soloist ended up using one of the handheld mics and a man and a woman sang a duet in front of the lecturn mic. The mix was good and the funeral was a dignified, stately affair. I sucessfully enacted a step forward toward the aim of gradually emancipating myself from the slavery of reacting to stimuli. The actual aim is to respond to the stimuli with relaxation and attention. R.F.’s May 25th diary is a good reinforcement to my efforts. And speaking of graduation and emancipation…
Last night was graduation night at the local high school. Today is the annual Emancipation Day celebration here, in celebration of the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation by Abraham Lincoln many years ago. This celebration, which does not happen in very many places anymore, involves a parade downtown and then speeches by civil rights leaders at an athletic field here in Upson County.
Good luck to the Crafties on tour in Argentina. I wish that I could be there to hear them.
Happy Holiday,
I.C.
