Speculative Waiting

Filed under: Uncategorized — maxh @ 2:27 pm and

On Friday I heard a news report about how people were buying up shares of Teva Pharmaceuticals stock, even though this company’s earnings were below estimates. The journalist suggested that perhaps this speculation was based on the esoteric knowledge of Teva either buying another drug company or being bought by another drug company. The stock had gone up $1.50 a share on Friday. After the close of the stock market, the Teva price went down a dollar per share on the news that it had lost a court case in which it wanted to start manufacturing a generic form of another company’s drug. I then bought some Teva stock in after hours trading. On Saturday night, Mylan Pharmaceuticals announced that it had successfully bought another generic drug manufacturer, which Teva was also attempting to buy. Uh-Oh ! Did this mean that Teva was going to sell off even more on Monday morning ? Well fortunately for me, I was able to sell my Teva stock this morning for a small profit, relieving myself of this monetary uncertainty.
Backtracking to Saturday… I was scheduled to rehearse with a vocalist at the Methodist church on Saturday. She was supposed to bring a CD with her for me to sound check through the p.a. She was scheduled to perform in church Sunday. (yesterday) The phone call never came and the rehearsal did not occur. So, at church yesterday morning, the soloist called to confirm that she wanted to sing along with the CD that had not been soundchecked. The church pianist was told that he would not have to accompany her and that the CD would accompany her. Then the soloist called the church to say that she had changed her mind and wanted to be accompanied by the pianist. The pianist could not be found to notify of the change of plans. At 10:20 am, thirty five minutes before the service began, the pianist was located and advised to rehearse the piano music to the hymn that had been faxed to the church. At 10:25 am, the soloist arrived and was ushered into the sanctuary, where a few congregation members had already seated themselves for the 10:55 am service. We rehearsed the hymn twice and adjusted the volume levels of the piano and voice through the main speakers and the monitor speakers, with ten minutes to spare. Another speculative close call in my work life. The sound quality during the service was good ! I hope that I am equally lucky in the next speculative situation that I encounter.
With relief,
I.C.
