A Most Suprising Band Practice
As I arrive at band practice tonight, who should drive up but the drummer of The Blues Remedy, the band that I reviewed in my previous post. It turns out that he talked to my singer after his show the other night and expressed an interest in auditioning with our band. He was here tonight to listen only. Then, who should drive up but our estranged harmonica player, who has not shown up for practice for about four weeks. He does not like our new original material; he wants us to play ‘raunchy blues.’Â The singer and bass player are only willing to play alternative, gothic originals. I did not feel that we should have a band confrontation in front of this prospective band member, for fear of scaring him off. So, after we ran through our set of four original songs, there was an uncomfortable period of no conversation for a few seconds. I rose to the occasion by starting subjects of conversation with this visiting drummer. We gave him a CDr of our demo and invited him to audition next week. The subject of whether the harmonica player is willing to stay in the band did not come up even though we really need to find out from him what he wants to do. All in all I think that we handled the situation o.k. I hope that this drummer doesn’t discover this diary and read the review of his band !
Whew !
I.C.
Don’t worry. I showed it to him. He knows you think his band sucks. Ought to be good for recruitment, huh?
