In a painful ironic twist of fate, and of a virtual part of my body I’d rather not have twisted, the remnants of TS Fay, the tail, came through yesterday with incredible fury, dropping gallons of rain, and some wicked lightning. One of these wicked bolts fried the sound chip in my Mac G5, a part which is apparently soldered to the board, which means a new logic board at least. The last thing I listened to? This I will be listening to music through my iPod for awhile. Lightning doesn’t like having its picture taken.

Susan’s drive home from work yesterday was genuinely frightening, as she was afraid of the car getting swept away.

The theme of the week: Blood. I began noticing distinct little bits of color here and there, my mind pointing out what was already there, here and there. Then there was yesterday’s first breakfast egg, which when cracked into the frying pan had a distinct hue. Then there were the beets. Then King Crimson. Then a glass of red wine, and The Masque of the Red Death. Theme of the week: The Color of Blood.

When in manual focus mode, using the thumb adjustment to set the distance to the shortest possible enables the camera to take photos of what is pressed against the lens. These little green bits were little flavor bits off of some chips we were devouring at the pool party on Sunday. You can see in the first photo my thumb is pressed against the lens, effectively making the camera a microscope:
