Hovering Fly Observed, Photographed
I’ve been trying to get a shot of one of these for years. They appear during the warm months and hang around in the shade under trees, hovering, darting, hovering, hovering, hanging in one spot motionless save their wings. This morning this fellow was in the alley behind the house:
