I can sense the beginning of the end of a very dark period for this person here. Illness, death, personal turmoil — and lawnmowers — all figure in, and the addressable issues are being addressed, meaning personal turmoil and lawnmowers. The nadir was this saturday afternoon’s response to inner darkness, where in a moment of lapsed attention, poor judgment and subconscious fury I ran a (yes, Craftsman) lawnmower, borrowed from a neighbor, over a metal crossbar from the hammock stand, instantly and irrevocable bending the crankshaft. This forced me indoors to the computer, where I dropped $300 on a new one with service plan, now given to the neighbor until I can suitably repair his.
Now, this period is coming to an end. I have bottomed out and am on the upswing.
I have made a new contact at the local big botanical garden, and have managed to arrange a contact between the garden and two remarkable trees in the neighborhood, both of which will — if the planets line up just right — be transplanted to become part of the Madagascar Spiny Forest Exhibit. Both of these specimens, an adolescent Adansonia grandidieri and a large Pachypodium lamerei were discovered on bike rides during the Fall of 2006.
Tomorrow morning a security system in being installed in our home. This is not good news, but it is a necessity due to deteriorating neighborhood conditions arising in part from 24 hr./day slot machine gambling at the current and former dog track now with casino four blocks south.
