The Art of Flamenco
Saturday, December 9th, 2006Last night Susan and I and friends went to a local tapas bar/restaurant which features a flamenco performance group. They took the stage a bit after 9:00, and when one of the female performers began warming up, I knew that something real was on the immediate horizon. We were able to stay for about a half an hour, and it was a wonder, both Susan and I noticing/understanding that there was something else happening besides dancing, singing and playing. There were elements of Indian classical music, an African element, and also something very much like Thrakking. My feeling was that some piece of true knowledge is hidden in the art form in an intentional way.
After leaving the tapas bar/restaurant we picked up Henry from his evening at the Hollywood Art & Culture Center, where they have a “Parents’ Night Out” program from 7-10. He had a great time, and his artistic and communication skill were noted by the staff.
After returning home I had to go back out and pick up Adele from her 4th-5th grade field trip to St. Augustine. Our friend Stacy was a chapparone for the trip, and brought Adele and five boys back to her house from school. Adele bought souvenirs for everyone, buying me a quill pen and ink in order to draw and digitize some fonts.
I’m selling the Volvo 960, as I have inherited my mom’s Honda CRV, as she has inherited my grandmother’s Toyota Corolla.
Yesterday morning a business meeting and after that an album artwork design marathon with Kramer for an upcoming Second Shimmy release by Rope, Inc. The always generous and talented Michael Macioce provided photos:

Shockabilly and Kramer/Shimmy Disc fans will recognize Macioce’s imprint.
