Into the Silent Land

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

I’m reading a very disturbing, interesting and great book at the moment, Paul Broks’ 2003 Into the Silent Land: Travels in Neuropsychology. It’s one of the most compelling things I’ve read, and it’s full of irreducible questions.

Today I did poster artwork for an up-and-coming musician with a cheerful demeanor and tremendous talent. I owe the opportunity to a great friend, and I hope this leads to more work of this quality. I also did some web work for a non-profit and some ads for my old employer.

Last night we had Valerie Zars’ birthday here at the house, with pizza, salad, cake, and merriment. Kramer showed me his newest infatuation on myspace, The Natural History Museum. There was a discussion in the old Forced Exposure magazine ca. 1989 about why Steve Albini produced The Breeders. Turns out the answer was “boing!”

I received the final go-ahead to plant trees in the local dog park. My shovel and I will be hard at work for the next couple of weeks.

A big, big, hunk of burning photos.

Tom Lewis is Married

David Barbe, a True Patriot.

We tried to warn her, she wouldn’t listen.

I’ll put the rest of our vacation photos up when I get them cleaned and color corrected. Right now, it’s time for work.

Atlanta, Liquid and Gels Prohibited

Friday, August 11th, 2006

Susan and I travelled yesterday, and were subject to the new ban on liquids and gels in carry-on baggage. We were interviewed by a local television station while standing in line. The link is on this page, click on the video titled “Passengers Adjust to Liquid Bans” to see Susan and I express our chagrin.

Last night we had dinner with ancient friend Gary Waterman and our host, Megan Bearden, Susan’s college roommate, at a lovely cafe in Cabbagetown. We are scheduled to have breakfast with Gary this morning, Megan is off to work at Coca Cola in her executive capacity.

After breakfast we are headed to Athens, and lunch with friends, and then later to Tom Lewis and his fiancee Suzanne’s rehearsal dinner.
